I make documentary films about how things are passed on. A grape harvest in the Douro, my grandmother describing her wedding, a folk group rehearsing near Paris, a bilingual theatre company forty years on stage. What draws me is what people keep doing when nobody is asking them to, and what quietly changes in the keeping.

Filming alone has been at the heart of my practice since my first short film, in 2015. A small camera lets me blend into a room and become almost invisible. I hold it at the height of the hands rather than the faces, at the height of what is working. Staying for months rather than hours is what opens the moments an interview never reaches.

Uma Vindima - A Harvest

There`s Life in the word Harvest. In the faces, the weight of work, of smiles. Songs echoes, the motors, the sheave crushing the grapes. Douro shapes my grandparents, shapes me. A film of affections, about the family united around the table, losses that still weight on the chest, in the house.
